Abstract
The survey collected data from staff working with mentally-retarded and cerebral-paralysed children in special classes in kindergarten, remedial schools and rehabilitation institutions in the 17 suburbs of Shanghai. Using self-report questionnaires and interviews, a survey was done on the current situation of rehabilitation of the mentally-retarded and cerebral-paralyzed children. The survey showed that rehabilitation of the mentally-retarded and cerebral-paralyzed children had high regards in Shanghai. It utilized various channels to assist rehabilitation of the two groups of children effectively, and formed a relatively adequate system in rehabilitation. Nevertheless, there were still problems in forming teams of professionals (quantity and professional standard), funding, and rehabilitation facilities. Lastly, we offered some suggestions on rehabilitation training for the two types of children.
